First Flight in a P-47
27 Oct 07On 10 June 1944, Paul reported on flying the P-47:
Today, I flew the P-47 for the first time. I was a bit scared—for it sure is a big job and fast, but I think I’ll like it very much pretty soon. I need quite a bit more time in it, however, before it will “feel” right.Mail came in today, too—the first in over 3 weeks. Sure was happy tonight! A big day!
He flew it again the next day and wrote:
I flew the P-47 for 3 hours today, getting the “feel” of it. I wrung it out in aerobatics and thoroughly enjoyed it.
